Desire
“What do you desire?
For Christmas, for the summer (or winter), for 2007, for your family, for yourself, for life? How often do you ask yourself about your desires? I ask you because we spend most of our time fulfilling our own desires. Yet so often my desires are founded upon fading worldly things; things that will pass away. So often my desires are selfish.”
The above just arrived in a Christmas card from a friend. I like the thought. I feel like my desires are pretty basic; a lot of the time they just go something like, “I wish there were fewer bills in the mail and a little extra cash in my wallet.”
Nothing wrong with that… except the focus is still on worldly things that will pass away. God’s got something bigger in mind:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
