Coffee Fabulous, Grounds… not so fun…

July28

Tip of the day number 2 in regards to coffee: When your daughter over turns the garbage can, and fresh wet coffee grounds fall to the floor…DON”T VACUUM it! :)

In an effort to keep little miss quick hands out of the spilled coffee grounds I grabbed my little Shark Vac, you know those little electric sweepers that look like what we used to call a Hokey? Yeah… well, it vac’ed up real nice real quick… Since I was in a hurry I just set the Shark aside and went back to cleaning the rest of the kitchen (well, after creating a coral in the living room for Vienna!) Then I grabbed the Shark to put it away… humm… some grounds are on the floor, maybe I’ll sweep them up…

The whirl wind of coffee grounds that followed was a site to see. It went everywhere!! Apparently, since the coffee grounds were still damp, what really happened was that some got into the vac container, but most of it settled and stuck in the corners of the brush housing… so when I turned it on again coffee grounds spit out back all over my feet, onto the carpet, all over the kitchen. For now, the Shark sits outside on the porch until I can muster up the energy to clean it out. Maybe it’ll dry out the grounds and be easier to clean… so… lesson learned :)

WARNING: Drink Coffee before doing Any Housework!!!!

July25

DON’T spill coffee grounds into your dishwasher!!!  Having had so much family in town, and being utterly exhausted, I’ve had a few snaffoo’s this week. The worst of which being the coffee mishap!

We had guests over Sunday night… we decided to make some decaf, but our grider already had ground regular coffee in it, so I put the regular in a cup and set it aside. Next day I, being in a lack of sleep trance, started loading the dishwasher as I waited for my coffee to brew… (Mistake #1, NEVER do anything before coffee!!!)

As I flipped to cup over onto the top rack of my dishwasher about 4 Tbls of fresh
coffee grounds flipped onto the door and into the washer well… IF THIS HAPPENS,
let me tell you now, vacuum it out if you must! I, still being in my coffee
free stupor decided “ehh, it’s just like schmutz left on the plates, it’ll wash
down the drain”… I am now running my 4th round of the dishwasher (two empty) trying to rid my washer of grounds ***rolling eyes*** I hope this time it works, I did use the vegetable sprayer from the sink to get a bunch of it off the dishes and down into the well this last round, but it has clogged up the center sprayer thing that extends to
clean the top rack, and that is now catching and staying partly up… hopefully this round will work!

Just a little tip of the day, frommy malfunctioning home, to yours (not that any of you will be doing anything like this!)

It’s probably an incredibly good thing that Sam makes the coffee in the morning for this family or more stuff like this would happen!!!

If I can get over it, I might later write about the laundry….***rolling eyes***

Rose Garden, Crown Point and Multnomah Falls

July16

What a glorious day for touring… it was a little warm and muggy, but still beautiful. And I actually got a great shot of the siblings :)   The above photo is from the Vista House(1916) at Crown Point along Oregon’s Historic Columbia River Highway.  It doesn’t seem that exciting, and to some it isn’t, but it sure is a beautiful view! They’ve recently refurbished the old building and I must say they have done a lovely job, it’s just beautiful.  On this side of the river is Oregon, and on the other side of the river is Washington.  Just ten miles down the road is Multnomah Falls.

The Falls are really cool (along the drive to the falls are several smaller falls, and were we in the mood to hike we may have visited them as well… but… well, just have a look on Matt’s face…in his defense it was hot, but then again, I think he was just being himself!)

Today we are all exhausted.  Matt & Sam had to work, I cleaned, and Es had to pack… not a fun job! But it was worth it!

Tomorrow we have to get up at an UGLY hour (about 5am) and take Esther to the airport.  But tonight the siblings are out in the office having a LAN party (for you non “tekkie’s” like me, that’s where they hook several computers up through a Local Area Network–think bunches of wires–and play a computer game against each other). I however not finding the joy they find in this have decided to get some sleep  :)   so I’m off to bed…

We’ll be sad to see Es go.  We’ve enjoyed having her here, I think one week end longer would have been better!!!  Maybe next time :)

First Day on the Beach…

July14

Vienna had a fantastic first day ever on the beach.  The weather at the coast was amazing!  It’s been quite a long time since I have been to Lincoln City, Oregon and had such nice weather!  It was at least 75 (I believe it was hotter) and there was unusually little wind… so we sat on the beach in shorts, and tank tops, and roasted!!  I was lobster red when we got back last night, but Sam put vinegar on my burns and they’ve diminished quite a lot!!!  Just a fantastic day for Esther’s visit (though I was a little disappointed that the huge waves I love so much were basically non existent the full time we were on the beach, but maybe Es can come visit some winter and we can take her again).

Vienna absolutely LOVED being wading in the water.  She would have probably stayed in there all day if we would have let her, despite the freezing water.  This is not the same Pacific water that you find in California!  But she loved it anyway.  She met a little puppy friend who was also just about a year old!! Then she chased him down the beach!

But we wore her out rather quickly!  So Sam tried to get her to lay down and take a nap, not an easy thing to do with a little one who is just sooooo excited to be exploring so many new things. But finally she gave in and took a nice long nap before we left…

We went to the Look Out at Cape Foul Weather, one of the first tourist spots I brought Sam the first year we visited Oregon, just after getting married.  Three years ago it was just Sam and I, this year it was the tree of us!  It was really nice returning to this spot for us with Matt and Esther.

Someday maybe we’ll have all the siblings and sib’s-in-lov there!  We miss Pris & Dan and Sarah & Bill (S&B may be living in Oregon some day in the relatively near future! then we can have family reunions here!!!)

All in all it was a wonderful day.

Today the Sib’s are out and about in Salem.  I think they are visiting Wunderland (wonder land) which is a video gaming place out here.  they’ll be doing what the three of them love best.  Vienna and I … well, she’s making messes and I’m attempting to keep cleaning them up and getting the house back into order at the same time… yeah, wish me luck!! :)

And that’s the update for today!! :)

More fun stuff later… it looks like it’s time for our little princess to take another nap… Vienna needs one too! ha ha.

Try and Take a Nice Photo… An What Do You Get!?!?!

July14

So, whenever we are out and about with the camera I’m usually hoping to get some nice shots of Vienna.  And I do, I LOVE taking photo’s of my little one.  But that’s about it…

Having a mother & father in-love living far away (In Ukraine) I think a nice thing to do on occasion is to take a nice photo of Sam with oh say maybe his little brother… These are the kinds of photo’s I get when Sam and Matt are aware the camera is on them:  (Sorry Mom Bible, but I doooo try!!)

“Hi, my name is Homer and I’m an 80 year old grump!”

“I have a hard time keeping my eyes open, so how’s this???” (tame by comparison, I’ve only used photo’s from the last two days!–please notice the red “evil” eyes!!!)

Hummm… let’s see… I was just asked for a nice photo… lets see how many “false alarms” I can cause….. (these are just the one’s I’ve saved!)

But with all their mooking for the camera… lets’ face it, they are fun people!!!  we really do love them… and on occasion they do behave!!

More tomorrow… for now, I’m red as a lobster and am going to go lay down and try not to move!!!!  I’ll add captions to the photo’s in the morning that I posted tonight as my mom’s in Ohio and will be checking the website out with my Aunt (my dad I’m sure is lost somewhere in the “holey lands”, back 9 front 9 who knows!!!!!)

Have a great day all :)
